If your eyes are okay, it's easy enough to read stuff in this format and it saves various resources as well.I am looking for a printer that can print high volume without replacing the ink cartridge often. You also might consider setting your software to print two pages per side of a sheet of paper. In general, you don't need color for most academic purposes.
They don't print in color (at least the monochrome ones don't) but the price has dropped way down and they're quite fast.
